Library Fines & Charges
Fines are $4 when overdue and the grace period for the item has expired. If items
are not returned at the end of the grace period, items will be billed as lost which includes the
cost of replacement and a processing fee. However, if returned soon after being billed, only the $4
fine is due. Charges for non-returned items are incurred as follows:
- Hardbound Book Price as listed in BIP or $25 plus $10 Processing Fee.
- Paperbacks $6 plus $4 Processing Fee.
- Music CDs $15 plus $10 Processing Fee.
Vincennes University students and users who owe fines and/or have not returned
items will not be able to borrow items, including reserves, from the library until fines are paid
and/or items are returned to the library. In effect, library privileges are revoked to users with
overdue items and fines.
If a patron returns an item after having paid "non-return charges," only the
replacement fee will be refunded. The processing fee will be retained by the library for previous
costs of record keeping. After a period of one year, none of the charges will be refunded. Patrons
are charged for damaged items as determined by the Lending Services Librarian or SLRC Dean. A $5.00
fine is charged to students who set off the security system with items not checked-out, pages torn
out of items, etc.
Payment of Fines & Fees
All library bills are to be paid in the library at the Lending Services Desk. If in
a rare instance a staff member who takes fines is not present, library patrons may be asked to come
back at a later time.
Reserve Check-Out
Faculty members may place items on reserve at the Lending Services Desk. Most items
may be used in the library only for a period of 4 hours. A few items may be taken out of the
library for a 24 hour period.
Fines: $.05 per minute on 4 Hour Loans; $4 per day on 24 hour Loans.
Materials Not Loaned Out
Reference books, newspapers, and magazines in all formats may not be taken from the
library. Photocopiers are available near the Lending Services Desk. Copies cost $.10 per page.
Videotapes are available for student and community borrower use in the library only. Faculty and
staff may check these items out for one week and may renew.
