Faculty members can schedule library instruction sessions for their classes. Most library
instruction sessions are held in the library and taught by a librarian. Such sessions are most
useful if geared toward a specific course assignment, rather than a general overview of library
resources. Instructors are encouraged to become familiar with the library and its resources.
Instructors may do their own tours/instruction sessions with their classes whenever desired. For
example, due to the large number of sections, librarians generally do not conduct tours for English
Composition I classes but instead have created a library unit with exam that students complete with
the assistance of their instructors.
The librarians strongly encourage the attendance of the instructor during the instruction
session with their students. Interaction between instructor, students, and the librarian enriches
the learning process, and stresses the importance of library instruction to students.
Requests for library instruction should be made at
least two weeks in advance of the session. This allows time
for the librarian to review relevant research materials and create any handouts - library guide,
exercises, etc.
