COMPUTER PROGRAMMING TECHNOLOGY 5450

Through the next decade the demand for computer programmers is expected to increase. Computer specialists with concentrations in systems programming, networking,  computer auditing, communications, database development, office and factory automation, internet and web design, and fourth generation languages will be in high demand.

Positions as commercial programmers, microprocessor programmers and analysts, and systems programmers are increasingly available with a shortage of experienced people to fill them. In recent years, mid-to-large sized companies in the U.S. alone have reported 34,000 unfilled technology jobs, with more technology companies expecting to increase their information technology (IT) staffs in the next several years.

THE VU ADVANTAGE

VU’s two-year Computer Programming Technology program is designed to build comprehensive programming skills in different computer languages.  Computer demonstrations in the classroom introduce you to commands, processing techniques, and problem solving. You will be writing and executing your own programs, acquiring the valuable hands-on training employers seek.

The computer laboratory is fully staffed to assist you in completing programming projects. Additional insight is gained through The Association of Information Technology Professionals, a student group that provides direct contact with practicing professionals.

ABOVE-AVERAGE SALARIES

If you are considering the computer profession and want to develop employable skills in several different computer areas, VU’s Computer Programming Technology program is for you. The starting salary range for our 2006 graduates was $22,880 - $30,000; the average starting salary was $26,440. (Includes both programmers and web page designers, with programmers earning the higher salaries.)
