COMPUTER/SOFTWARE SUPPORT SPECIALIST 5440

Computer Support Specialists are projected to be among the fastest growing and most employable occupations over the next several years according to industry trends and the US Department of Labor and Bureau of Labor Statistics.  Employment ratios for Computer Support Specialists who hold degrees are far above those who hold certifications alone or nothing at all.  Computer Support Specialists who have training and knowledge of various computer operations, software, operating systems and support techniques are and will continue to be in high demand. Industry trends are showing that companies desire support staff that is better versed in a broader range of computer skills and expertise.  The most common skills desired as a Computer Support Specialist are: technical support, help desk support, and network, computer and systems administration. 

Careers as Computer Support Specialist, Software Support staff, Application Specialist, Technical Analyst and Help Desk Representatives are increasingly available throughout many industries.  These positions are not limited to large or mid sized companies.  In addition to larger organizations, small organizations need specialists to guide them through day-to-day functions and computer operations.

VU’s two-year Computer/Software Support Specialist degree program is designed to provide skills and training required to enter the workforce in the nation’s fastest growing career track.  Students will be exposed to theoretical and practical applications of programming logic, networking concepts and administration, computer management and repair, as well as how to assist other with the use of computer applications such as Microsoft Office suite.

The projected employment outlook in this field is bright and statistics show that the beginning salary range for Computer Support Specialist range from $32,000 - $44,000 with the average beginning salary being $38,000.
