ART, PRE-ART THERAPY 2053

Art Therapy is a human service profession that uses art as an effective treatment and diagnosis tool for various types of impairments. It is practiced in mental health, rehabilitation, medical, educational and forensic institutions. It is used to reconcile emotional conflicts, develop social skills, reduce anxiety, aid in reality orientation and help determine condition of burn patients, and determine the nature of certain social and family problems. Mastering one or more art disciplines is required for success in the field. Specific Art Therapy courses usually begin late in a student's undergraduate work and continue into master's degree programs. The American Art Therapy Association, Inc regulates the educational, professional and ethical standards for art therapists.
