FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES DEPARTMENT
If you enjoy working with pre-school children, then your enrollment in Vincennes University's Child Development program could be the first step to a rewarding career. This program will lead to the Associate degree (A.S. or A.A.S.) and prepares you to own or operate your own home-based child care business or work in a day care center in an administrative or teaching position. The curriculum also provides a solid basis for transfer to a baccalaureate institution for further study in child care, child development, or early childhood education.
THE VU ADVANTAGE
An important part of your education will be covered in the child care classes where you will enjoy "hands-on" instruction in working with children. Child care laboratories are provided at child care facilities in the community, including the YMCA Day Care, Headstart, and licensed home-based day care centers. As a part of your coursework, you will prepare developmentally appropriate lesson plans and creative activities for children.
BE YOUR OWN BOSS
You will also learn how to establish your own child care center, covering areas such as licensing, planning, funding, staffing, and budgeting. Other courses will include food preparation, nutrition, child development, first aid, music, art, children's literature and psychology.
If you are interested in a career in childcare, Vincennes University is a great place to start!
