A career as a diesel mechanic is attractive because wages are relatively high and skilled repair work is challenging and varied. And, according to the Department of Labor, employment in this field is expected to enjoy average increases, compared to all occupations.
Most diesel mechanics work on heavy trucks in industries such as mining, construction, and private and commercial trucking lines.
Additional diesel mechanics will be needed to repair and maintain growing numbers of buses and heavy construction equipment.
THE VU ADVANTAGE
Vincennes University will prepare you for entry into this field at an advanced level. You will learn trouble-shooting techniques and major repair service on earth-moving equipment, heavy diesel trucks, backhoe equipment, and diesel stationary plants. You will become proficient in equipment rebuilding, calibration, and testing, along with installation of components.
