Here are a few things you should know about scholarships:

• There are companies that offer scholarship searches for a fee. Some are scams, so be alert. The bottom line is, you should not have to pay to search for scholarships.

• FastWeb is a good resource for scholarship listings. Visit www.fastweb.com for their free scholarship search.

• Receiving other scholarships does not harm your eligibility for the Twenty-first Century Scholars award. On the contrary, other scholarships will help you financially. The more scholarships you have, the less you will have to pay.

• Scholarship awards are often restricted as to how the money can be used.

• If you are awarded a scholarship that applies to tuition, that scholarship will be applied to your tuition before your Twenty-first Century Scholars award. This is not a bad thing.

• If you receive a scholarship that applies to finances other than tuition, that scholarship will not change the amount of your Twenty-first Century Scholars award.
