The Dean Richard McKaig award is named in honor of the first recipient of the award, Richard McKaig, Dean of Students at Indiana University. ICAN is an initiative of the Indiana Coalition to Reduce Underage Drinking, a program of Mental Health America of Indiana. The mission of ICAN is to lead Indiana in reducing student alcohol misuse, tobacco use, and violence through environmental change.
Dr. Bishop is a clinical psychologist who joined the VU staff in 1994. Since then she has shown extraordinary commitment to students not only in her capacity as director of Counseling Services but also through volunteering to assist students during special events and programming across several areas of campus.
“While I’m very honored to receive this recognition, this award really should be shared with all the many people at VU who prompt students to think about their choices, and in so doing prepare our students for the challenges and opportunities they’ll face both during and after college,” Dr. Bishop said.
Dr. Bishop holds membership in several professional associations and is respected by her peers in the field. She has taken leadership roles when called upon and participates in several committees on campus.
