Early Voting: Any registered voter in Indiana may vote early (in-person) in the county election board office in the county where he or she is registered to vote. The deadline for early voting is noon, Monday, November 3rd, 2008. In Knox County early voting is located on the 2nd floor of the court house. The hours are 8:00AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday with the exception of November 3rd when early voting closes at noon. On Saturday, October 25 and Saturday, November 1, the times are 8:00 AM to 3:00PM. Check with your county office for days of operation and hours. If you do not consider Indiana your permanent home and wish to vote in your home state, you should verify your state’s absentee voting policies and deadlines through your county election office.
Absentee Voting: Any registered voter in Indiana may apply for an absentee ballot from the county in which they are registered until October 27th. The absentee ballot application MUST be postmarked by MIDNIGHT on October 27th. The completed absentee ballot must be returned by November 3rd.
Photo ID: Voters at the polls or voting in-person at the county election office (or satellite locations) will be required to show an Indiana State or US Government issued photo ID. The Vincennes University student photo ID will be accepted. Out of state IDs will not be accepted. Please visit www.photoID.in.gov for details.
Transportation: If you do not have transportation to the court house or to the poll on Election day, transportation will be available based on the following schedule:
- Early Vote: Go to the Grand Hall of Beckes Student Union at the following times:
Tuesday, October 28th at 11:00 AM,
Wednesday, October 29th at 3:00 PM,
Thursday, October 30th at 11:00 AM
- Election Day, November 4th: Transportation will be provided at the following locations:
Indianapolis Avenue beside Harrison Hall from 6:00 AM to 5:30 PM
Short Street between the Donald G. Bell Rec Center and Vanderburgh Hall from 6:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
- Residence hall students November 4th polling location is the Neighborhood Facilities Building located at the corner of 4th and Hart. Please use the 5th Street entrance and look for the Precinct City 2 poll.
- Students not living in a residence hall (and NOT Knox County residents) should check with the Knox County Clerk’s Office for their polling location. Please note that the polls open at 6:00 AM and will close at 6:00 PM. Do not wear campaign buttons, T-shirts, etc, to the poll.
Reminder: Lines are expected to be long on Election Day, November 4th. Please allow enough time to vote and do not miss classes. If you have a heavy class schedule on Tuesday, November 4th you might consider voting early.
