Tennis Blazers get ‘Technical’ in Ft.Wayne

By Dave Hunter (dhunter)

VU posts fourth shutout this season.....

Ft. Wayne, Ind., Apr. 12 – The .,Vincennes University tennis team picked up its 24th win of the season Saturday, defeating Indiana Tech, 9-0, indoors at the Wildwood Tennis Club.

“It was a very good day for us,” Vincennes coach Ron Albers said. “We came out and dominated the doubles and carried it through the singles. They’re a young team, similar to us with a lot of freshmen and sophomores.”

The day was originally scheduled as a four-team invitational with Grand Rapids, Mich., and DuPage, Ill., but they didn’t make the trip since cold weather forced play indoors.

VU (24-3) lost only five games in three doubles pro-sets to open play.

“We played very good offensive tennis, taking the action to them and controlling the points which we’ve worked on a lot lately,” Albers said. “The doubles play was the highlight of the day.”

Freshman Justin Harlow (3-1) was the only player who split singles sets before beating Daniel Yamamoto, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0(8), at No. 3. Harlow has missed most of the season due to a shoulder injury and was playing only his fourth match.

“He had flashes, but he’s still not 100 per cent,” Albers said. “He didn’t get any free points on his serve.”

The Blazers play Buffalo at Muncie Monday at 12-noon.

“It’s our last D-1 opponent, a good MAC team,” Albers said. “It’ll be a great challenge.”
