Sophomore Chris Taylor VU medalist.....
Springfield, Ill., Apr. 14 – The Vincennes University golf team finished 12th in the 17-team Bulldog Invitational held Monday at the 6,770 yard, par 72 Panther Creek Course in Springfield, Ill.
McKendree, Ill., College edged out Parkland, Ill., College 611-612 to capture the team title while Rend Lake was third, only three strokes off the winning pace. VU had a 641 score.
“Overall, I was pleased with our play on a very good course,” Vincennes coach Dennis Chattin said. “Thirty-six holes in one day is always a challenge. We played as soon as the frost was off the greens until dark.”
Trailblazer sophomore Chris Taylor was the Trailblazer medalist. He shot consecutive 77's for a 12-over par 154 total.
“I was pleased that Chris had a back-to-back top ten finish,” Chattin said. “We may have had a lack of concentration on the second 18 and our score didn't drop.”
Other VU scores were:
Jason Walters 79-82 – 161
Andrew Grantz 81-80 – 161
Logan Lamb 85-82 – 167
Josh Robbins 83-85 – 168
“This was part of getting better and we've improved in each tournament, “ Chattin said. “I hope we're peaking at the right time for the region tournament in 3 ½ weeks.”
The Blazers will compete in the Rend Lake tournament Friday and Saturday.
