4th-ranked Blazers wrap-up regular season 26-4.....
Oakland City, Ind., Apr. 24 – The fourth-ranked Vincennes University tennis team defeated Oakland City University, 9-0, for the second time this season Thursday afternoon.
“We only took six players on the trip because some of the others had academic obligations with finals next week,” he said. “Our depth really came through for us today.”
The Trailblazers lost only four games in three doubles pro-sets and dominated five of the six singles matches.
Coach Ron Albers shook up his lineup, using different doubles combinations and moving players up in singles.
“Our interchangeable doubles lineup is effective because the plays and formations are similar and the players are comfortable with any partner,” he said.
Freshman Justin Harlow played second singles and defeated Augusto Castro, 6-4, 6-2, as he continues to rebuild his game after missing most of the season due to a shoulder injury.
“He’s getting more consistent,” Albers said. “It was another match for him to get more relaxed and string together winning points. It was a step in the right direction.”
Albers was also pleased with freshman Jimmy Dunseith who bageled Andreas Palacios, 6-0, 6-0, at fourth singles.
“I liked the way he took care of business,” he said. “He immediately took control of the match.”
Vincennes (26-4) will host Grand Rapids, Mich., in the Region 12 championship match next Thursday.
