Ohio prep star Johnie Davis will play for Blazers.....
May 13 – Vincennes University interim head basketball coach David Ragland has announced a second signee for the 2008-09 basketball season.
Johnie Davis, a 6-2 guard from Timken High School in Canton, Ohio, will join the Trailblazers after leading his team to a 24-1 record in district title last winter.
Davis, the Canton Repository Stark County Player of the Year and a first-team All-Ohio selection, averaged 18.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 3.1 steals, while shooting 45.6 percent from the floor this past season.
He joins 6-2 point guard Cordell Passley from Indianapolis Pike who played at Harmony Prep in Cincinnati, Ohio, last season. Passley originally signed with Tennessee and was ranked among the top 40 prep players in the country.
The Trailblazers have two returning players from last season, 6-4 reserve forward John Freeman (9.7 ppg, 6.1 rebounds) and 6-8 backup center Devon Archie (3.3 ppg, 2.1 reb).
Ragland, who was named interim coach for next season earlier this week, indicated other signees will be announced soon.
