BCST 100 Introduction to Mass Communications
(Sem I, II) Prerequisites: Successful completion of READ 009 and ENGL 009, or recentered SAT Verbal of (R)370 or greater, or appropriate placement test scores. A historical look at mass media with special emphasis on broadcasting, tracing its development from the earliest public broadcasts through the present; comparison of other media with respect to broadcasting. 3 lecture hours.

BCST 110 Broadcast Performances
(Sem I, II) Designed to provide both theory and practice in the voice and visual aspects of radio and television performance. Includes oral interpretation, reading skills, copy analysis, on-camera movement and delivery, voice mechanism anatomy and function, microphone techniques, interview skills and techniques, characterization and improvisation. 2 lecture hours, 1 laboratory hour.

BCST 120 Beginning Radio Production
(Sem I, II) Prerequisites: Successful completion of READ 009, ENGL 009 and MATH 009, or recentered SAT Verbal score of 1 Any course identified with a is a protected course; see page 48 of this catalog for an explanation of protected courses. (R)370 or greater and SAT Math score of (R)330 or greater, or appropriate placement test scores. A basic radio production course designed to acquaint students with the fundamental principles of radio program production; tape recording, editing, interviewing and microphone techniques. Laboratory exercises conducted in University radio studios. (For Broadcast majors only.) 3 lecture hours, 4 laboratory hours.

BCST 140 Beginning Television Production
(Sem I, II) Prerequisites: Successful completion of READ 009, ENGL 009 and MATH 009, or recentered SAT Verbal score of (R)370 or greater and SAT Math score of (R)330 or greater, or appropriate placement test scores. A basic television production course which includes lighting and camera techniques and principles of television directing. Laboratory exercises conducted in University television studios. (For Broadcast majors only.) 3 lecture hours, 4 laboratory hours.

BCST 150 Broadcast Sales I
(Sem I, II) Prerequisites: Successful completion of READ 009, ENGL 009 and MATH 009, or recentered SAT Verbal score of (R)370 or greater and SAT Math score of (R)330 or greater, or appropriate placement test scores. Basic overview of broadcast law, broadcast sales, current trends, and structural organization and operation of local radio and television sales departments. (For Broadcasting majors only.) 3 lecture hours.

BCST 161 Advanced Radio Production
(Sem I, II) Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in BCST 120. An advanced radio production course to help build audio production skills. Special attention is paid to commercial production and on-air skills. (For Broadcast majors only). 3 lecture hours, 4 laboratory hours.

BCST 180 Advanced Television Production
(Sem I, II) Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in BCST 140. Advanced television production course to continue sharpening students? television production skills with special attention to television commercial production and simple television newscasts. (For Broadcast majors only.) 3 lecture hours, 4 laboratory hours.
