Architectural Studies/CAD Program Description

Since 1968, the Architectural Studies/CAD Program at Vincennes University has been working with students with little or no prior experience, and then training them to be qualified Technicians within the Architectural and Engineering Professions.

This technician, who could be called an Architectural or Engineering Technician, is taught to prepare construction documents, presentation drawings and models of various structures. In the profession, these drawings and models are created from technical sketches and specifications, usually prepared by architects and engineers, so that the completed structure will be functional, efficient, safe, structurally sound, and aesthetically pleasing.

The coursework required for VU's Architectural Studies/CAD Program leads to either an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) or an Associate of Science (AS) degree. While both degrees have the same technical skill content, the AS degree has more General Education requirements. The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools accredits both degrees.

As a part of this intensive two-year program, professionalism and standard office procedures are discussed and practiced to prepare graduates for entry-level employment. As a foundation to the student's career, there are two manual drafting and four CAD courses required using AutoCAD software. To compliment this, there is supplementary coursework required in: Surveying, Design I and II, Architectural History, Rendering & Illustration, and 3D Studio VIZ. Students may also take an Elective course in Structures. Additional coursework in Math, Physics, Social Science, Physical Education, English, and Humanities, are also required.
