Watch a short video about the Construction Technology program and Vincennes University

The Construction Technology program offers its students a unique opportunity to gain academic and on-the-job training experiences. The program is designed to prepare graduates for positions within the residential housing construction industry. These positions generally include carpenters, lead-positions for framing and finish carpentry, supervisory management, sales, material estimating, and job costing. Many graduates seek employment in related fields of the residential housing industry. This typically includes positions for building material suppliers and other related industries.

Construction Technology graduates may seek direct employment within the construction industry, or may choose to transfer to one of several baccalaureate institutions. The Construction Technology program networks with many professional organizations including the Indiana Builders Association (affiliated with the National Association of Home Builders) and the Indiana Lumber and Builder's Supply Association (affiliated with the National Lumber and Building Materials Dealers Association).

Students may choose several degree options. The construction Technology program offers the associate of science degree (A.S.), the associate of applied science degree (A.A.S.), and one-year certificates of program completion. In addition many students seek the Construction Technology Building Materials Marketing option. This option provides students a unique opportunity to intern with building suppliers.

Students will be exposed to many facets of the construction industry including:

  • Construction safety
  • Framing
  • Electrical wiring
  • Finishing carpentry
  • Concrete and masonry
  • Mechanical systems
  • Residential house construction I & II
  • Construction material takeoff
  • Construction labor rating and pricing
  • Architectural drafting and print reading
