The Advanced Manufacturing third year program at Vincennes University is a CAD/CAM/CNC intensive course of study that provides students with more than 800 additional contact hours of advanced CAD/CAM programming and CNC machining. Due to the advanced nature of the course, only students who have completed the major course requirements of the Tool & Die, or Injection Mold Tooling options are eligible to enroll. The faculty and staff will assist students to obtain an internship with a manufacturer during the summer between their second and third years in the program.
Instruction is provided in Vincennes University's state-of-the-art Technology Center located on the VU main campus. This facility houses the Haas Technical Education Center (HTEC), made possible though the Lilly Tech Works Partnership Fund, which includes 13 Haas machining centers and turning centers. Students program and machine complex 2, 3, 4, and 5-axis parts using Mastercam X2 and the Haas CNC machine tools. Projects are designed to make use of the latest in high speed machining in collaboration with companies specializing in die making, mold making, aerospace, medical, and the motorsports industry. Approximately 1/3 of the projects are actual "live" prototype work in collaboration with manufacturers.
Partnerships include; Haas, Mastercam, Kennametal, Sandvik, Niagara, SGS, LMT-Fette, Oxygen Education, Immersive Engineering, Charmilles and Erowa, among others. Students attend trade shows, visit manufacturers, and take part in seminars presented by our industrial partners. Students also take required courses in high performance cutting tools, quality, and CNC machine tool maintenance. The students are provided with opportunities to certify their skills with Haas and Mastercam, and take part in nation-wide contests.
Vincennes University was awarded the 2005 Indiana and Technical Education Award for Excellence for it's industrial partnerships. Also, VU students have won Mastercam's Innovator of the Future Contest for the past 3 years running.
