A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), under the direction of a licensed
physician, dentist, or professional nurse, gives hands-on care to those with physical and/or mental
health needs. An LPN will:
-
observe and provide direct patient care
-
administer medications and treatments
-
give counsel
-
assist with disease prevention and restorative health care
-
help identify health problems of patients
-
record and report patient responses to the care provided
-
teach and/or supervise others
WHY VU OR VUJC?
With VU programs, students learn through classroom and laboratory
instruction, participation in patient care, and through observation in community health agencies.
The program is designed to help you understand disease processes and to develop the ability to
assist patients in recovery, in the prevention of disease, and in maintaining an optimum level of
wellness.
THE VU ADVANTAGE
Faculty members have worked successfully with students who have sound
educational backgrounds, as well as those who have had limited educational opportunities. Personal
attention, instructional laboratories, and free tutoring are all available.
THE NEXT STEP
Upon successful completion of Vincennes University’s Practical Nursing
certificate program, you’ll be eligible to take the national licensure examination to become a LPN.
Following licensure, employment may be obtained in hospitals, nursing homes or convalescent care
centers, physicians’ and dentists’ offices, and other health care agencies.
Note: Recommended courses assume any developmental requirements have been
met.
