Play for Kay Cancer Awareness

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation, is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause. Kay Yow was a college head coach for 38 years and past president and founding member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Her name is synonymous with North Carolina State. She is a member of the Naismith National Basketball Hall of Fame and achieved more than 700 career victories. Yow was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. She passed away in 2009 after an on-again, off-again battle with the disease.

#21 Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers Defeat State Fair CC in Final Regular Season Home Game

Vincennes, IN – The 21st-ranked Lady Trailblazers played host to the Roadrunners of State Fair Community College in VU’s final home game of the regular season. Vincennes defeated State Fair 78 – 57 in a wire-to-wire victory.

The Lady Trailblazers got off to a hot start early on, going on a 16 – 0 lead for the first 6 minutes of play. This lead held through the first quarter as Vincennes led the Roadrunners 20 – 6. State Fair battled in the second period, answering every Trailblazer basket, but Vincennes got the last shot of the half and went into the locker room with a 41 – 26. Sophomore Ladellia Maggett returned to the court on a mission with 14 first-half points. Fellow sophomores Mykel Roth and Claudia Stan followed Maggett with 6 points each. Stan is also on pace for yet another double-double with 6 points and 5 rebounds at the break.

VU stumbled into the third quarter, looking to find the right rhythm to carry them to the final buzzer. State Fair managed to narrow the Vincennes lead, but only slightly going into halftime down 60 – 47. The Lady Trailblazers defense was crucial down the stretch, only allowing 10 fourth quarter points by the Roadrunners. Vincennes held the lead for the entire 40 minutes of action and won by the score of 78 – 57. Sophomore Claudia Stan had a major impact on the Trailblazer offensive in the final quarter, scoring 6 consecutive points, as VU built an insurmountable lead over State Fair.

Ladellia Maggett was the games leading scorer with 23 points and 5 assists, including hitting on 3 of 6 from 3-point range. Claudia Stan followed her with 14 points and 18 rebounds, giving Stan her fifth double-double of the season. Freshman Janiya Davis reached double-figures with 11 points and 6 rebounds. In all Vincennes shot 48% from the floor and 43% from 3. VU also forced the Roadrunners to commit 22 turnovers, resulting in fast-break opportunities for the Lady Trailblazer offense.

Vincennes will travel to Ina, IL this Wednesday, February 21st, when they take on Rend Lake College. Tip-off of that game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. eastern.

Scholarship Fund

Trailblazer Scholarship Fund - The VU Foundation awarded a record $1.4 million scholarship dollars of VU Foundation and University funds for the 2015-2016 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  

These included awards to students from 10 states across the country and 4 international awards.  

Currently the VU Foundation manages over 540 scholarship and department funds, with 259 new funds created in just the last 10 years.
