At VU, we believe sports play an important role in the overall purpose of an educational institution. We support a well-rounded intercollegiate sports program for both men and women and have a strong presence in the NJCAA where we can claim several national championships. But we are equally proud of our individual All-American and All-American Academic athletes who have used their talent to continue their education at four-year colleges.

#21 Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers Lose First Home Game of the Season to District P Rival John A. Logan

Vincennes, IN – Going into their match-up with John A. Logan the #21 Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers were a perfect 12 – 0 in game at the Physical Education Complex, sadly that streak ended after losing 87 – 70 against the Lady Volunteers.

The Lady Trailblazers seemed to be struggling offensively in this contest and it started early, with Vincennes trailing by 6 after the first quarter of play. VU lost the second quarter also, but only by one basket, and trailed John A. Logan at halftime 37 – 29. The Lady Trailblazers shot 35% from the field in the first two quarters and only managed to connect on 2 of 12 3-point attempts. Sophomore Ladellia Maggett was VU’s leading scorer early with 11 first-half points. Freshman Ivanda Hudjakova followed her with 9 points of her own. Sophomore Claudia Stan put on a rebounding clinic early, grabbing half of Vincennes’ 16 first-half rebounds on her own.

The deficit ballooned on the Lady Trailblazers early in the second-half, trailing after 59 – 43 with just 10 minutes to go. VU put a valiant effort, playing until the very end, but tonight just wasn’t their night. Vincennes added 27 points in the fourth quarter but could not shrink the Lady Volunteers lead. Sophomore Mykel Roth came on in the second-half scoring wise, getting all 10 of her points in the final 2 periods. Freshman Christina De La Cruz also became a target offensively for the Lady Trailblazers with 8 second-half points.

In all 4 Lady Trailblazers reached double-figures in the points column, Ivanda Hudjakova was the leading scorer with 15 points, Ladellia Maggett followed her with 14 points. Roth and De La Cruz each ended the night with 10. Claudia Stan narrowly missed a double-double with 9 points and 12 rebounds on the night.

Vincennes will remain at home this weekend, when they take on Southeastern Illinois on Saturday, February 17th. This game is the front-half of a men’s and women’s double-header, with the Lady Trailblazers set to tip-off at 5 p.m. eastern.
