#24 Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers Defeat John A. Logan in District P Semifinals

Ina, IL – The Lady Trailblazers advance to the Championship Game of the District P tournament after an 89 – 66 victory over the Lady Volunteers of John A. Logan College.

Vincennes and John A. Logan were neck-and-neck for most of the first period before a 3-pointer by sophomore Ashley Johnson gave the Lady Trailblazers a 5-point lead after the first quarter. Vincennes continued their scoring run, which ended up at 21 – 5, extending the Lady Trailblazer lead to 35 – 19. The Lady Vols battled back though, hitting an assortment of 3’s, cutting the Vincennes lead to 10 at halftime. Sophomore Ladellia Maggett a major factor in the offensive execution, going into the break with 12 points and 9 assists.

Vincennes came out of the locker room with the intention of putting the game away as quickly as possible. The Lady Trailblazers started the third quarter on a 14 – 4 run and ended up extending their lead further going into the final period with a 70 – 46 advantage. Logan battled through the fourth quarter, but the lead was too much. VU ran out the final seconds on the clock and punched their ticket into the next round of the tournament with an 89 – 66 victory which gives Vincennes the 2 to 1 advantage on the season series with John A. Logan as well.

Ladellia Maggett was the games leading scorer with 23 points. Maggett also continued to spread the ball around as well, ending her evening with 12 assists, and 4 steals. Sophomore Mykel Roth finished the game with 12 points off 5 of 7 shooting from the field. Roth also dished out 3 assists in the game. Freshman Janiya Davis nearly had a double-double with 12 points and 9 rebounds. Freshman Marquitta Easley came off the bench to score 11 points, while also grabbing 4 offensive rebounds. Freshman Ivanda Hudjakova and sophomore Claudia Stan round out the Lady Trailblazers scorers to reach double-figures with 10 points each. Both players also grabbed 6 rebounds each. Stan swatted away 4 would-be Lady Volunteers shots, and Hudjakova ended 3 Logan possessions with steals.

The Lady Trailblazers will be in action again tomorrow, March 9th, when they take on #9 Wabash Valley in the District P Championship Game. Tip-off of that game is scheduled for 7 p.m. eastern/ 6 p.m. central.
