#24 Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers Have 16-Game Winning Streak Snapped at Mineral Area

Park Hills, MO – Sophomore Ladellia Maggett’s 35 points, 11 steals performance could not keep Mineral Area College from completing the upset over #24-ranked VU Lady Trailblazers.

Maggett got started early, managing to score 10 points in the first quarter alone. Fellow sophomore Mykel Roth also had a quick start scoring wise, with 5 points in the first 10 minutes of play. Vincennes held a 3-point lead after the first quarter of action. Freshman Ivanda Hudjakova connected with 7 of her 9 first-half points in the second quarter, Maggett matched her with 7 points for an already impressive 17 points in the first-half. Freshman Christina De La Cruz game off the bench to add 5 points as the Lady Trailblazers went into the locker room with a 35 – 32 lead.

Mineral Area took the lead at the end of the third quarter, leaving Vincennes trailing by the slimmest of margins, 51 – 50. Maggett and Hudjakova were the main scorers for VU in the period. Hudjakova with 7, and Maggett with 5. Freshman Oksana Fastova hit a 3 early in the third quarter, which ended up being her only 3 points of the contest. The Lady Trailblazers battled through the fourth quarter but only managed to tie when the buzzer sounded, sending this game into overtime. Only the second time this season Vincennes has had to play an extra 5 minutes. After a high-scoring overtime period, Mineral Area College ended up being ahead, giving Vincennes their first loss since the middle of November.

Ladellia Maggett had a full stat line in this game, with a game-high 35 points, a career- high 11 steals, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. Maggett was followed in the scoring column by Ivanda Hudjakova, who came off the bench to score 16 points, grab 6 rebounds and swipe 4 steals

The Lady Trailblazers will look to get back to their winning ways this Wednesday, February 14th, when VU hosts John A. Logan College. This match-up is the opening game of a men’s and women’s double-header, with the women’s game set to tip-off at 5 p.m. eastern, and the men’s game to follow at approx. 7 p.m. eastern.
