At VU, we believe sports play an important role in the overall purpose of an educational institution. We support a well-rounded intercollegiate sports program for both men and women and have a strong presence in the NJCAA where we can claim several national championships. But we are equally proud of our individual All-American and All-American Academic athletes who have used their talent to continue their education at four-year colleges.

#3 Vincennes University Close Out Regular Season with Win at Southwestern Illinois

Belleville, IL – The #3 Vincennes University Trailblazers closed out a 29 – 1 regular season last Friday with an 81 – 68 victory over the host Blue Storm of Southwestern Illinois College.

The Trailblazers were ahead at halftime with an 11-point lead, which on the surface may not seem like much, but with how evenly matched these two teams are any lead above 5 can be considered large. Vincennes and Southwestern shot the ball relatively evenly in the early part of the game, both shooting over 44% in the first 20 minutes. VU separated themselves with 4 3-pointers, and 12 made free throws.

The second-half of this game was more of the back-and-forth, physical battle expected from 2 Top-30 NJCAA Division I basketball teams, with the Trailblazers only able to increase their lead by 2 points. Something of note from the second-half of play was that Vincennes almost had as many free throw attempts as field goal attempts (25 field goal attempts, 24 free throw attempts).

VU was led by sophomore Isaiah Tisdale, who finished with a game-high 23 points, adding 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Tisdale was followed by fellow veterans Rade Kukobat and C.J. Hedgepeth, as well as freshman Lony Francis, Jr. who scored 14 points each. Kukobat completed his fourth double-double of the season with 12 rebounds.

Vincennes heads to Ina, IL this week to begin postseason play at the NJCAA District 16 Men’s Basketball Tournament. Vincennes will begin action on Wednesday, March 7th, when they take on the winner of Kaskaskia and Lewis & Clark. VU will be apart of the first game of the day Wednesday, with tip-off scheduled for 1 p.m. eastern or 12 p.m. central.
