At VU, we believe sports play an important role in the overall purpose of an educational institution. We support a well-rounded intercollegiate sports program for both men and women and have a strong presence in the NJCAA where we can claim several national championships. But we are equally proud of our individual All-American and All-American Academic athletes who have used their talent to continue their education at four-year colleges.

#3 Vincennes University Remain Unbeaten After Top-25 Clash with Southwestern Illinois

Vincennes, IN – The #3 ranked Vincennes University Trailblazers put their unbeaten season on the line as the hosted #25 ranked Southwestern Illinois College.

VU found themselves in a tough spot at halftime, after a 3-point buzzer beater put Southwestern Illinois ahead 41 – 40 going into the break. The Trailblazers were lead early on by sophomore guard Isaiah Tisdale who was the games leading scorer after 20 minutes with 16 points. Freshman Ty Gadsden hit a couple of 3’s early on and went into the half with 9 points, and 3 steals. The first-half of this game was a back-and-forth battle that was expected when two Top-25 teams collide in District 16. In total the lead changed 7 times, with the score being tied 4 times. Neither team could really get an edge as the largest first-half lead was only 6-points, and was quickly erased.

Vincennes exploded out of halftime on the back of Ty Gadsden who on consecutive possessions hit 3 3’s and gave VU the largest lead of the game to that point of 55 – 47. The Trailblazers continued to ride the hot hand of Gadsden as he continued to drive through defenders for 21 second-half points. In all, the shots were falling for the Trailblazers in the second half, shooting 59% from the field in the final 20 minutes. VU continued to roll through the final stages of the game, hitting key free-throw attempts, and ended up clinching their 20th victory of the season with a 93 – 81 win.

Sophomore Hughes Mbumba came off the bench in the second half to record 10 of his 11 points, while also pulling in 5 rebounds and swatting away 2 would-be Blue Storm shots. Freshman George Dixon had himself a solid game with 9 points and 7 rebounds. Isaiah Tisdale became more of a facilitator as he ended the game with 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Sophomore CJ Hedgepeth also recorded 5 points, 5 boards, and 3 assists.

The Trailblazers next home game will be this Saturday, January 27th, when they host Wabash Valley College as part of a men’s and women’s double-header. The VU women’s team will start the action at 5 p.m. eastern with the men’s game to follow at approximately 7 p.m. eastern.
