Play for Kay Cancer Awareness

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation, is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause. Kay Yow was a college head coach for 38 years and past president and founding member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Her name is synonymous with North Carolina State. She is a member of the Naismith National Basketball Hall of Fame and achieved more than 700 career victories. Yow was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. She passed away in 2009 after an on-again, off-again battle with the disease.

#3 Vincennes University Trailblazers Have 3 Starters Go Over 20 Points in Victory Over Lake Land College

Vincennes, IN – Freshmen Ty Gadsden and Lony Francis, Jr. as well as sophomore Isaiah Tisdale each put together 20 + point nights as VU kept their unbeaten season alive with a 100 – 61 victory over the Lakers of Lake Land.

District 16 games are known for physical play. This game lived up to this billing and then some, as early on Vincennes and Lake Land seemed to trade foul calls at each end of the floor. VU’s guards have grown to like the physical nature of playing in this district and seem to relish the opportunity to drive toward the basket, even while knowing they are going to take a hit suitable for the NFL. The backcourt trio of Gadsden, Tisdale, and freshman Keith Clemons each had double-figures by half-time with Tisdale leading all scorers with 14 points. Gadsden followed him with 12 and Clemons went into the locker room with 10. Others who thrive in this physical style of game would be the Trailblazers big men, who seemed to grab almost every missed shot. Sophomore Rade Kukobat showed his rebounding talents early going into half-time with an astonishing 9 rebounds. Vincennes used these early performances to help build a 49 – 31 half-time lead.

In the second-half Vincennes and Lake Land took an already physical game, and turned it into even more of a bruiser. In total 30 fouls were called in the final 20 minutes of action, including 3 technical fouls. For the game, the Lakers and Trailblazers combined for 71 free throw attempts. The second-half turned into the “Lony Francis show”, as the freshman’s second-half stats alone would have been enough for a double-double. In the final 20 minutes Francis had 16 points and 10 rebounds, on his way to a 22-point, 14-rebound night. Francis was aided by the precision passing of Isaiah Tisdale (8 assists) and sophomore C.J. Hedgepeth (6 assists).

Ty Gadsden was the game’s leading scorer with 25 points, Francis followed him with the previously mentioned 22 points, and Isaiah Tisdale finished his night with 20 points. Keith Clemons ended his night with 10 points, rounding out the VU scorers in double-figures. Also, Rade Kukobat pulled in a couple of second-half rebounds to bring his game total over the decade mark to 11.

The Vincennes University Trailblazers will remain at home for their next contest with Southwestern Illinois, on Wednesday, January 24th, as part of a men’s and women’s double-header. The VU men’s game is scheduled to tip-off at approx. 7 p.m.

Scholarship Fund

Trailblazer Scholarship Fund - The VU Foundation awarded a record $1.4 million scholarship dollars of VU Foundation and University funds for the 2015-2016 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  

These included awards to students from 10 states across the country and 4 international awards.  

Currently the VU Foundation manages over 540 scholarship and department funds, with 259 new funds created in just the last 10 years.
