#3 Vincennes University Trailblazers Remain Unbeaten After District 16 Win Over Shawnee

Vincennes, IN – The #3 Vincennes University Trailblazers continued their unbeaten streak in a 97 – 58 victory over the Shawnee Saints.

In District 16, it is common for games to be won and lost in front of the rim, this match-up between #3 VU and Shawnee was nothing different. In the first-half the Saints only attempted 1 3-pointer, and the Trailblazers only made 2. The remaining 68 combined first-half points were earned through hard drives toward the basket, or from grabbing an offensive rebound and fighting your way to an open shot. Vincennes retrieved 11 offensive rebounds, while Shawnee did not grab any in the first 20 minutes, allowing the Trailblazers to gain the advantage at halftime with a 48 – 26 lead. Freshmen Ty Gadsden and Lony Francis, Jr. led the charge for Vincennes early, combining for 26 points, Gadsden also added 5 rebounds.

Francis, Jr. was VU’s scoring target early in the second-half when he added 11 more to his point total. Freshman Keith Clemons finished the game with a pair of 3-pointers and fast break layups, with his 11 second-half points. In this bruising contest the Vincennes starters out-rebounded the Saints on their own 28 – 13. The Trailblazers played through the full 40 minutes, never allowing the Saints to come within 15, and ended up with their 24th victory of the season.

Lony Francis, Jr. set a new career-high with 23 points, also adding in 6 rebounds. Gadsden finished with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Sophomore Isaiah Tisdale and Keith Clemons each scored 13 points, with Tisdale grabbing 5 rebounds, and sophomore C.J. Hedgepeth reached double-figures with 10 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds. Sophomore Rade Kukobat was the team’s leading rebounder with 7, and fellow sophomore Hughes Mbumba came off the bench to grab 5 boards.

Vincennes will be on the road next when they travel to Olney, IL to take on District 16 opponent Olney Central this Saturday, February 10th. This game is part of a men’s and women’s double-header with the women’s game tipping-off at 2:00 p.m. eastern and the men’s game to follow at approx. 4:00 eastern.
