At VU, we believe sports play an important role in the overall purpose of an educational institution. We support a well-rounded intercollegiate sports program for both men and women and have a strong presence in the NJCAA where we can claim several national championships. But we are equally proud of our individual All-American and All-American Academic athletes who have used their talent to continue their education at four-year colleges.

Graham & Franklin Pace Trailblazers to Runner-up Finish at Greater Louisville Classic with Pair of Top-10 Finishes

Louisville, KY – Freshman Marcus Graham & Sophomore Evan Franklin paced the Vincennes University Trailblazers cross country team to a runner-up team finish out of 57 teams at the Greater Louisville Classic with a pair of top-10 finishes.

In a race that included nearly 500 athletes, the Trailblazers toed the line to square off against some of the best DI, DII, DIII, and NJCAA member schools the nation has to offer. The starter fired the gun, and they were off!

The group of runners rumbled around the 8,000 meter course. From the start, Graham and Franklin positioned themselves in the top-25, and began to make their move. Their teammates in neon yellow singlets did the same, moving forward throughout the 5-mile race.

Freshman Marcus Graham crossed the line with a 6th place finish. His time of 26:02 was the 5th fastest time in school history. Sophomore Evan Franklin was hot on his heels, finishing 7th in 26:04. Freshmen Seth Vaquero, Atlantis Green, and Michael DeMeyer rounded out the top-5 for the Blazers with: 25th, 36th, & 59th place finishes respectively.

The team notched 4 personal bests, and 5 season best times on the day. Also, the team’s runner-up finish is the not only the best in school history, but is the first time Vincennes has finished in the top-5 teams at the Greater Louisville classic.

Coach Blake Albrecht said after the meet, “We have had a really tough couple of weeks of practice, but we managed to mentally block that out, and race hard. I was really impressed with how well we moved during the middle part of the race, and how smart we were early. They are really beginning to come together as a team, trust each other, and lean on each other. They have an opportunity to do something very, very special at Lansing & Fort Dodge at the end of this year.”

The Blazers will return to action Saturday, October 14th at the University of Evansville Invitational!
