#23 Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers Win Over District P Rival Lincoln Trail

Vincennes, IN-The #23 VU Lady Trailblazers picked-up the win tonight in a District P match-up against Lincoln Trail, 69-43.

The first-half of the game was a tightly contested defensive battle, with the VU Lady Trailblazers, who are averaging 93 points per game, held to just 29 points. The Lady Trailblazers’ defense answered though, holding Lincoln Trail to only 15 first-half points, and only 5 made field goals. VU forced the Lady Statesmen to commit 15 turnovers, 9 of which were steals. Freshman Marquitta Easley led all scoring at the break with 9 points, and fellow freshman Oksana Fastova followed closely behind with 8 points.

The 3rd quarter was when the Lady Trailblazers offense began to heat up, nearly doubling their points in a single quarter. The Vincennes defense didn’t let up, forcing 16 second-half turnovers. VU pulled away in the second half of action outscoring Lincoln Trail 40-28. Sophomore Mykel Roth ended up leading all scoring in the game, capturing 13 of her 17 points in the second-half. Freshmen Marquitta Easley, Oksana Fastova, and Janiya Davis rounded out the Blazers players in double-figures with 12, 11 and 10 points. Sophomore Ladellia Maggett had an all-around performance with 8 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals on the night.

The Lady Blazers defense held Lincoln Trail to a 27% shooting percentage on the night. The VU offense also shared the ball well all night, recording assists on 15 of their 24 made field goals.

The next game for the Lady Trailblazers is a road game at Shawnee, on Saturday December 2nd, as part of a men’s and women’s double-header. The women’s game will tip-off at 1 p.m. eastern. The next home game for Vincennes will be Monday, December 4th as they take on Mineral Area at 7 p.m.

Scholarship Fund

Trailblazer Scholarship Fund - The VU Foundation awarded a record $1.4 million scholarship dollars of VU Foundation and University funds for the 2015-2016 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  

These included awards to students from 10 states across the country and 4 international awards.  

Currently the VU Foundation manages over 540 scholarship and department funds, with 259 new funds created in just the last 10 years.
