About Us

National Junior College Athletic Association Logo

At VU, we believe sports play an important role in the overall purpose of an educational institution. We support a well-rounded intercollegiate sports program for both men and women and have a strong presence in the NJCAA where we can claim several national championships. But we are equally proud of our individual All-American and All-American Academic athletes who have used their talent to continue their education at four-year colleges.

#23 Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers Pick-Up Win Against District P Opponent Shawnee

Ullin, IL-The #23 VU Lady Trailblazers were on fire tonight as they took down their District P opponent Shawnee by the final score of 126-60.

Vincennes took control of the game early, ending the first quarter of action with a 9-point lead, and improving even more with a 24-point half-time lead. Sophomore Mykel Roth got the Lady Trailblazers rolling early with 17 of her game-high 29 points coming in the first half of play. VU’s defense also came to play early, recording 13 steals before half-time. Vincennes’ model of “defense leads to offense” shined today as those early turnovers allowed the Lady Blazers to find easy shots on the other end of the floor, resulting in a 51% first-half shooting percentage.

The second-half is where the Vincennes style of play really seemed to bother Shawnee, as the Lady Trailblazers outscored the Lady Saints 70-28 in the final 2 quarters. VU’s defense pressure forced Shawnee to commit 26 turnovers in the game, 21 of which were steals. The Lady Trailblazers got strong second half-showings from sophomore Ladellia Maggett who recorded 19 of her 22 points in the second-half, and from freshman Ivanda Hudjakova who accounted for half of VU’s 30 3rd quarter points on her own.

Mykel Roth and Ladellia Maggett recorded a double-doubles today with 29 points and 11 rebounds for Roth, and 22 points, 12 assists for Maggett. Sophomore Ashley Johnson and freshman Marquitta Easley both finished the game with double-digit point totals, with 17 and 12 respectively. Sophomore Claudia Stan also proved to be the final stopping point for many Shawnee’s would-be shots, ultimately ending the game with 9 blocks.

The Lady Trailblazers return home on Monday December 4th when they take on Mineral Area. Tip-off of this game is scheduled for 7 p.m. eastern.
