6 Trailblazer Student-Athletes Earn NJCAA All-Academic Award

Colorado Springs, CO – 6 Vincennes University Athletes earned NJCAA All-Academic Awards for their outstanding working in the classroom during the 2016-17 school year. These athletes included: Zach Breault for Men’s Golf, Jordan Sprinkle, Madison Meurer, and Sydney Nurrenbern for Women’s Volleyball, and Women’s Basketball athletes Milana Matias & Claudia Stan.

Zach Breault was named to the NJCAA All-Academic 2nd team for keeping a cumulative GPA between a 3.80-3.99 for the entire 2016-17 school year. Breault was a freshman on the Golf team this past season, and the native from nearby Red Hill high school managed to be one of the top 3 scorers for the Trailblazers in every meet this season. Coach Chattin said of Breault, “Zach is a real conscious student, and works tirelessly on his academics. He even brings his homework, laptop, and material with him when we travel to away tournaments and matches. It is no surprise.”

Sophomore Jordan Sprinkle, & Freshmen Madison Meurer and Sydney Nurrenbern represented Women’s Volleyball during the 2016-17 season, and were the next Vincennes University Student Athletes to earn NJCAA All-Academic Awards. Sprinkle was named to the 2nd team, while Meurer & Nurrenbern were both named to 3rd team. Sprinkle will be attending Trevecca Nazarene this fall on a Volleyball Scholarship, and plans to study Social Work. Madison Meurer will be moving on after one year at VU to attend Indiana University, and continue her pursuit of a degree in Pre-Medicine. Finally, Sydney Nurrenbern is a Physical Therapy Assistant Major, and plans to return to Vincennes University this fall for her sophomore year. Coach Sien said of his athletes, “They all came in with very strong academic backgrounds, and had several college credits coming into Vincennes. So I knew they would continue to be great academically, and I knew they were serious about their future. They are a great example of our program, and what our program can do.”

Finally, Sophomore Milana Matias & Freshman Claudia Stan earned NJCAA All-Academic Awards, and represented well for Women’s Basketball on the court this winter. Matais was named to the NJCAA All-Academic Second team, and signed earlier this spring to continue her basketball career at the University of Southern Indiana. Coach Meeks said of Matais, “Milana has worked extremely hard at everything she has ever done here. She came in a little behind on her English, started in ESL, worked incredibly hard to get out of it, took a large workload of classes, and the job she did was unbelievable. I’m more pleased about her academics than anything she has done here. That is the goal after all, to get a degree. She is going to do amazing things at USI the next two years.”

Freshman Claudia Stan also represented Women’s Basketball this winter, and was named to the NJCAA All-Academic 3rd team. Stan came in very raw in terms of her skills on the court, but worked very hard this season, and the 6’5” Romanian Center finished the season as one of the best shot-blockers in the NJCAA, despite playing limited minutes. Coach Meeks said of Stan, “Claudia is one of the better students on our campus. She is extremely interested in her academics, and she took a huge number of hours in her freshman year. Her English & Math skills are outstanding, and she has worked very hard to improve on the court. We are excited to have her as a Trailblazer.”
