Cali Topolski to Continue Volleyball Career with Indiana University East

Richmond, IN – Cali Topolski is a 5-foot 6 defensive specialist/setter, out of South Bend, Indiana, and graduated from South Bend St. Joseph High School. Cali is the daughter of Carolyn Topolski.

At Vincennes Topolski had two exceptional seasons as a setter, helping the team reach a hitting percentage of .250% in 2016 and a .233% in 2017. As a sophomore Cali had 391 set assists, 146 digs, and 25 service aces while missing 16 matches due to an injury.

Topolski is the first sophomore from a vaunted 2016 recruiting class at VU to sign. In her two seasons at Vincennes VU won 59 matches, and was national ranked each season after VUVB was elevated to NJCAA Division I in 2016. Cali also set her club team to the tournament title at the 2016 ASICS Junior National Championships in Chicago, IL.

VUVB coach Gary Sien added, "Cali was the first player I saw play after I accepted the position to coach the Trailblazers. I knew we were getting a high-level player! She has persevered through a number of things in her time here and has been better and stronger for it. We are proud of what Cali has accomplished and we are truly happy for her opportunity at Indian University East. This is a program I am very familiar with as she will receive exceptional coaching from Coach Abigail Niekamp (Florida State University/University at Buffalo) and Assistant Coach Kim McConaha (Purdue University) as they are both former NCAA Division I student-athletes.

She is a first! I have never had a student transfer in mid-year like this until Cali. We will certainly miss her leadership and heart. We can replace the position but never truly the person".

Cali signed with Indiana University East, which is a member of the NAIA, and will begin there in the Spring 2018 semester and will continue to major in business. IU-East, in 2017, won the River States Conference tournament and advanced to the NAIA National Championships.

The Red Wolves volleyball coach Abby Niekamp had this to say about Topolski signing, “We are so grateful to be adding Cali to our team this spring. She is adding depth to our setting position with her experience from Vincennes and her overall skill-set. Cali’s determined mind set for the game fits in well with our team culture and we’re looking for her to make an immediate impact on our offensive game.”
