About Us

National Junior College Athletic Association Logo

At VU, we believe sports play an important role in the overall purpose of an educational institution. We support a well-rounded intercollegiate sports program for both men and women and have a strong presence in the NJCAA where we can claim several national championships. But we are equally proud of our individual All-American and All-American Academic athletes who have used their talent to continue their education at four-year colleges.

Da Silva, Lady Trailblazers Continue Record-Setting 2017 XC Campaign at Greater Louisville Classic

Louisville, KY – Sophomore Anais Da Silva, and the Vincennes University Women’s Cross Country team continued what has been a record-setting season this afternoon at EP Tom Sawyer Park. Da Silva became the first-ever Trailblazer to win the race of nearly 500 athletes, and the team’s 6th place finish out of 59 teams is the best in school history.

As the teams crowded the starting line, athletes from DI, DII, DIII, NAIA, & NJCAA member schools from all over the United States and Canada took their marks. With the blast of the starter’s pistol, they were off!

Da Silva quickly took to the front, and controlled the pace from wire to wire. Da Silva broke the tape in a winning time of 18 minutes and 33 seconds, a new Personal Best, and 8 seconds faster than she covered the course last season. Da Silva won a race over a stacked field of nearly 500 athletes, and in-so-doing, became the first-ever athlete in Vincennes University history to do so.

The rest of the Lady Blazer squad followed suit. Sophomores Maisie Lay, Sydney Davidson, Wendy Catalan, and Nacketa Scanlon finished 24th, 63rd, 72nd, & 116th respectively.

Coach Blake Albrecht said after the meet, “I was really proud of our ladies today. We have had a really tough two weeks of practice, and they still showed up today and competed well. We are pretty banged up, but still managed to have a good showing. Anais ran phenomenal. She looked excellent, and was in control from wire-to-wire. Once we heal up a little bit, and freshen up, we will be ready to something very special at the Regional Meet.”

The Lady Blazers will return to action Saturday, October 14th at the University of Evansville Invitational!
