At VU, we believe sports play an important role in the overall purpose of an educational institution. We support a well-rounded intercollegiate sports program for both men and women and have a strong presence in the NJCAA where we can claim several national championships. But we are equally proud of our individual All-American and All-American Academic athletes who have used their talent to continue their education at four-year colleges.

Gill Headed to Seton Hall

Vincennes, IN – 7-foot sophomore from St. Thomas, Jamaica signed his letter of intent this afternoon to continue his academic & athletic career at Big East, hoops powerhouse Seton Hall.

“It feels good to be a Pirate. I’m excited to get started, and take my game to the next level. Although, I am really going to miss Coach Franklin, Coach Davis, Coach Elmore, and all of my teammates here at VU. I really enjoyed my time here, and I will always cherish the 2 years I spent at VU.” Said Gill after signing the dotted line to play for the Pirates next season.

Gill was a huge part of the rim protection that was a vital part of the 2016-17 Trailblazer’s successful 32-and-3 season that ended in the Elite 8 round of the NJCAA National Tournament. Gill was very raw coming out of high school, but has improved greatly over his 2 season at Vincennes. As a sophomore, Gill averaged 5.1 points per game, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks an outing. His 85 blocked shots on the season were top-10 in the NJCAA.

Coach Franklin said of Gill, “He is a great kid, and we are really excited for Ro. He has come a long way over the last 18-20 months, and it’s a testament to his work ethic, his character, & his ability. We are excited to see what he will do, not just over the next two years, but over the next decade. I believe he has the ability to improve, and even play beyond his next two season at Seton Hall, at the professional level. He will be playing against some of the best in the country over the next two years. He will raise the bar, and continue to showcase his talents well at the next level.”

Gill will provide some added depth to the big-man position for the Pirates, and will sure up a back-court that was comprised of Isaiah Whitehead & Ismael Sanogo, who were no slouch themselves on the defensive end of the floor. Seton Hall finished the season 21-and-11, and made the NCAA Tournament, before falling to the Arkansas Razorbacks in the first round. The addition of Gill will without a doubt only help the team’s chances to return to the NCAA Tournament, and have continued success.
