Goodwin Heading to Vincennes

Vincennes, IN – Justin Goodwin, 27th-place finisher at the IHSAA Cross Country Championships this past fall, top-10 miler in the state of Indiana, and brother of former Vincennes University Men’s Basketball player Janzen Goodwin, has signed to continue his running career for the Trailblazers next fall.

“I am truly grateful for the opportunity. I can’t thank Coach Albrecht enough for believing in me, and signing me today. I can’t wait to get in next year, and get started!”

Goodwin comes to the Trailblazers after a remarkable Senior season on the grass this fall. Goodwin’s time of 15 minutes and 30 seconds at the Eagle Classic was one of the top-20 fastest times run in the state of Indiana this year. He backed up that performance by running a solo, 15 minute and 31 second effort at the Blue Chip Conference Meet.

Although a lingering injury plagued the Barr-Reeve stand-out for the remainder of the season, he still finished 7th in a very competitive Brown County Semi-State, and finished 27th at the IHSAA Cross Country State Championships.

However, Goodwin has proven he is more than just a good cross country runner. Last spring, he finished 10th in the 1600m run at the IHSAA State Track & Field Championships in a time of 4 minutes and 16 seconds, just one spot off recording All-State honors. Goodwin also clocked an impressive 3200m time of 9 minutes and 34 seconds at the Eastern Relays hosted by the University of Louisville. This was the only time he ran the 3200-meter race last season.

Vincennes University Cross Country/Track & Field Coach Blake Albrecht said on Signing Goodwin, “This is huge for us. Justin is an incredible talent, and he takes our team to another level. I 100% believe had he been healthy and finished the season strong, he would have run close to 15:15 on the grass. We return 8 of our top-10 runners from a team that last season was the #5 ranked team in the NJCAA, and have put together a very impressive 2018 recruiting class. Justin gives us a kid who can run a lot of different events on the track, and can potentially come in and finish top-15 at the NJCAA Cross Country meet next fall. He is a hard worker, he is driven, he is a good teammate, he is coachable, and he wants to win a national title while he is here. We are thrilled to have him.”
