At VU, we believe sports play an important role in the overall purpose of an educational institution. We support a well-rounded intercollegiate sports program for both men and women and have a strong presence in the NJCAA where we can claim several national championships. But we are equally proud of our individual All-American and All-American Academic athletes who have used their talent to continue their education at four-year colleges.

Lay Leads Trailblazers with Break-out day at Walt Crawford Open

Charleston, IL – The Vincennes University Women’s Cross Country team took advantage of fantastic weather at the Walt Crawford Open hosted by Eastern Illinois to run some fast times to start the season. None more-so than Sophomore Maisie Lay, who ran the 3rd fastest time in Vincennes University history by clocking a finishing time of 18:56 for 5,000 meters to place 19th overall in the race.

However, Lay wasn’t the only Trailblazer to have a big day on the grass. Sophomores Sydney Davidson, Wendy Catalan, and Nacketa Scanlon ran 20:15, 20:31, and 20:34 respectively, while Freshman Liz Bredeweg rounded out the scoring for the Blazers as the 5th runner in 20:45.

Coach Blake Albrecht said of the performance, “I thought we ran some really smart, and really tough races today. Maisie ran outstanding, and all the girls really showed how much hard work they put in over the summer. We will have Anais and Keneisha back by Intercollegiates hopefully, and that makes us a pretty good team. I was really happy for the women, and really proud of how hard they raced late in the race. A good sign of things to come!”.

The Lady Blazers will return to action on September 15th at the Indiana Intercollegiate Meet hosted by Purdue University! First race is slated to take-off at 3:15 p.m. EST! Go Trailblazers!
