Maggett Sets Career-High in #24 Vincennes Lady Trailblazers Win at Southwestern Illinois

Belleville, IL – The #24 VU Lady Trailblazers traveled to Southwestern Illinois looking to finish their regular season off with another District P victory and came away with an 89 – 76 win.

The Lady Trailblazers came out of the gates firing in this match-up, jumping out to an 11-point lead after the first quarter. Sophomore Ladellia Maggett and freshman Janiya Davis combined for 16 of VU’s 22 points in the early period of the game. Southwestern’s defense clamped down on Maggett, which left freshman Marquitta Easley open to connect on a pair of 3’s on her way to an 11-point second quarter. The Lady Trailblazers went into halftime with a 48 – 33 advantage over the host Blue Storm.

Ladellia Maggett took over the game for the final 20 minutes of play, accounting for over half of the Vincennes second-half points. The Lady Trailblazers defense continued to protect their lead, as costly Southwestern turnovers turned into easy baskets for VU offensively. Ultimately as the final buzzer sounded, Vincennes captured their 23rd win of the season, and 16th win versus District P opponents.

Ladellia Maggett set a new career-high in points tonight with an astonishing 39-point performance. Maggett also delivered on 7 assists and 5 steals. Marquitta Easley was the Lady Trailblazers second leading scorer, putting together a 13-point, 4-assist performance off the bench. Janiya Davis was the third and final Vincennes player to reach double-figures in points with 11 points and 3 steals on her night. Sophomore Claudia Stan was once again a rebounding machine in the paint, pulling in an amazing 14 rebounds, 6 of which were offensive rebounds.

The Lady Trailblazers will begin postseason play this coming Tuesday, March 6th, when Vincennes will host the District P Quarter-Final rematch with Southwestern Illinois. This game is scheduled to tip-off at 7 p.m. eastern.
