Matias Tabs University of Southern Indiana to Continue Her Basketball & Academic Career

Vincennes, IN – Lithanian Sophomore Guard Milana Matias decided she would trade in her blue, gold, and white for red, white, and blue for the next two years of her academic & athletic career as she chose to sign with the University of Southern Indiana this afternoon.

“I am really, really happy. I love the school. I love the coaching staff. I am so excited that I found a place that I can continue academically, and also have the opportunity to play basketball. I can’t wait to get started.” Said Matias after signing her letter of intent to play basketball for USI.

Matias has been a huge part of the Lady Trailblazers success over the last two seasons. During her time at VU, she has been a part of 54 wins, a trip to the NJCAA National Tournament, a District title, and has been a staple for the Blazers in both seasons. During the 2016-17 season, Matias averaged 9.5 points per game, 3.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.8 steals. Matias played point guard and shooting guard at different parts of the season due to injuries, but has shown she has the ability to do both at a high level.

Coach Meeks said of Matias, “She is a very good athlete. She shoots the ball well, her ball handling is outstanding, and I think USI is really getting a steal with her. I think she is going to be an excellent player at the next level, and a player that is going to give them a lot of quality minutes.”

Matias closed her signing by saying, “I want to thank all my coaches, my friends, and the people at Vincennes who have supported me. Coach Meeks, Coach Strikas, and Coach Buck have done so much for me, as have all of the great teammates I had during my time at VU. I really appreciate them. I will miss them a lot next year, but I’m really excited for the newest chapter of my life.”
