At VU, we believe sports play an important role in the overall purpose of an educational institution. We support a well-rounded intercollegiate sports program for both men and women and have a strong presence in the NJCAA where we can claim several national championships. But we are equally proud of our individual All-American and All-American Academic athletes who have used their talent to continue their education at four-year colleges.

Men’s Basketball Team Gives back Through United Way’s Day of Caring

Vincennes,IN – The Vincennes University Men’s Basketball team spent most of their Friday morning, and early afternoon, performing community service during the United Way’s National Day of Caring up-and-down Willow Street.

Head Coach Todd Franklin explained the importance of giving back by saying, “We do United Way’s Day of Caring as a way to give back to the community that gives us so much. It’s a great cause. Anything we can do, anytime we are asked to help out, we will always try our best to make it happen. I am going into my 8th year at the University, we have done this every year, and will continue to do this every year I am here.”

United Way’s annual Day of Caring is the largest one day community-wide volunteer event in our community. This year, the 24th Annual Day of Caring connected a record number of volunteers – more than 1,200 – with 60 local nonprofit organizations to help complete much needed projects.  Volunteer work included a variety of activities including painting, gardening, landscaping, cleaning walking trails, assisting in classroom settings, assembling food backpacks, and much more.

Franklin finished by saying, “Our guys have been given a lot, so any opportunity they get to give back to the people in the community is great. Our guys understand how much support they get from the community in terms of support at ball games, season ticket sales, etc. They wanted an opportunity to show the community how much that means to them, and how proud they are to be a part of the Vincennes Community.”
