At VU, we believe sports play an important role in the overall purpose of an educational institution. We support a well-rounded intercollegiate sports program for both men and women and have a strong presence in the NJCAA where we can claim several national championships. But we are equally proud of our individual All-American and All-American Academic athletes who have used their talent to continue their education at four-year colleges.

Men & Women XC Teams Climb into Top-5 in NJCAA

New Orleans, LA – For the first time in program history, both the men’s, and the women’s cross-country teams at Vincennes University are ranked in the Top-5 in the NJCAA heading into the NJCAA Cross Country National Meet next weekend.

The #5 ranked men’s squad climbed 4-spots this week from #9 to #5 after picking up a Region XII title in dominant fashion over now: #7 Lansing CC, #12 Maccomb CC, #18 Grand Rapids CC, & #26 Muskegon. The Trailblazers captured their 2nd consecutive Region XII title, and sophomore Evan Franklin became the first athlete in over 40 years to win consecutive Region XII titles. Freshman Marcus Graham, sophomore Hunter Ingle, freshman Seth Vaquero, and freshman Atlantis Green all earned All-Region honors by finishing: 3rd, 8th, 11th, & 13th respectively.

The #5 ranked Vincennes University women’s team recorded their highest ranking in team history by jumping from #8 to #5 this week after the team captured its first ever Region XII team title. The Lady Blazers took down: #7 Lansing CC, #16 Maccomb, #18 Cuyahoga, Muskegon, and Grand Rapids, the latter of the two earned votes in the NJCAA Top-25 rankings.

The Trailblazers topped Lansing Community College on a tie-breaker in what was an absolute nail-biter of a race. Sophomore Anais Da Silva captured the individual Region XII title, and took down the school record in the process. Fellow sophomores Maisie Lay & Sydney Davidson both earned All-Region honors by finishing 3rd & 8th in the race.

Coach Albrecht commented on the rankings by saying, “This is really exciting for our kids, and for our program. I am glad they are being recognized for all of their hard-work. They deserve it. However, these rankings aren’t a determined finish of how the race will play out. Everyone will still have to show up on race day, and take it. We have a chance to make history next weekend, and our athletes are really excited about that.”

Both #5 ranked Vincennes University Cross-Country teams will compete at the NJCAA National Cross-Country Championships hosted by Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa next weekend, November 11th. Men’s race is slated to start at Noon est, 11 a.m. central, and the women’s race will go-off at 1 p.m. est, noon central time. Go Blazers!
