Play for Kay Cancer Awareness

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation, is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause. Kay Yow was a college head coach for 38 years and past president and founding member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Her name is synonymous with North Carolina State. She is a member of the Naismith National Basketball Hall of Fame and achieved more than 700 career victories. Yow was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. She passed away in 2009 after an on-again, off-again battle with the disease.

Tisdale’s Late Free Throws Give #3 Vincennes University Their 21st Win of the Season

Vincennes, IN – The #3 Vincennes University Trailblazers defeated Wabash Valley College 73 – 71 in a game that literally came down to the final seconds.

The Trailblazers were evenly matched with the Warriors of Wabash Valley early on in this game, with 7 first-half lead changes, and only managing to go into the locker room with a 2-point lead. In the first 20-minutes of play VU showed that basketball is a team game as no player had more than 7 points, and 7 players had more than 4 points. Freshman Ty Gadsden was the team’s leading scorer at half with 7, with the trio of sophomore Isaiah Tisdale, and freshmen George Dixon and Keith Clemons following closely with 6 each. Tisdale also added 4 assists, and Dixon grabbed 5 rebounds.

In the second-half the two teams were more evenly matched then before, putting up identical 34-point halves. Isaiah Tisdale gave the Trailblazers the edge they needed with his team-high 17 points, and 5 assists, as well as freshman Lony Francis, Jr’s 10 second-half points, and the overall effort to not turn the ball over. The Trailblazers traded baskets with the Warriors late, allowing the score to be tied 6 different times in the second-half, but took the lead after Tisdale’s 2 made free-throws with 3.4 seconds remaining. After a timeout call by Wabash Valley, the Warriors threw up a 3 at the buzzer that missed, securing the Trailblazers 21st victory on the season, and continuing this unbeaten season.

Lony Francis, Jr. ended up with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Ty Gadsden reached 13 points and 4 assists, and George Dixon got his third career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore CJ Hedgepeth also recorded 4 assists on the night.

The next time the Trailblazers will be in action will be on Wednesday, January 31st, when they travel to Kaskaskia College. This game is scheduled to tip-off at approx. 8:30 p.m. and is part of a men’s and women’s double-header.

Scholarship Fund

Trailblazer Scholarship Fund - The VU Foundation awarded a record $1.4 million scholarship dollars of VU Foundation and University funds for the 2015-2016 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  

These included awards to students from 10 states across the country and 4 international awards.  

Currently the VU Foundation manages over 540 scholarship and department funds, with 259 new funds created in just the last 10 years.
