Tkacz, Perry, Career-Days Pace Trailblazers to 3rd Place Finish at Brunswick Southern

Marietta, GA – The Vincennes University Bowling team finished 3rd out of a highly-competitive 39 team field at the Brunswick Southern Classic, thanks impart to Tommy Tkacz winning the individual section at the classic, and Tyler Perry becoming the 1st VU Bowler in several years to bowl a perfect 300-game.

“Very pleased with the overall performance for the weekend.  We had a very strong Saturday finish, shooting team games of 1148, 1180,  & 1132 to move from 14th place up to 2nd.  I believe the second highest 3-game team set that we have had since I’ve been coaching.  This put us in a position to compete for the title on Sunday for the first time this year.  We came out a little tight on Sunday, going through the process of getting the mind and body to function under the pressure of being close to winning which will be valuable experience for the players as we proceed through the season to our post season Sectional.” Coach Sparks said of the team’s performance this weekend.

Brunswick Southern Classic was hosted at the Brunswick Autsell Bowl near Atlanta. The field featured several Division I, Division II, Division III, and NJCAA member schools.

Vincennes Bowlers tallied the following scores:

Athlete                                                 Total Pins                             Average                               Games

Tommy Tkacz                                     1416 pins                             236 ppg                                6 games

Tyler Perry                                          1343 pins                             223 ppg                                6 games

Ryan Benslay                                     1211 pins                             201 ppg                                6 games

Shawn Gibson                                   1068 pins                             213 ppg                                5 games

Tyler Lewis                                          778 pins                                194 ppg                                4 games

Kyle Rasmussen                                               553 pins                                184 ppg                                3 games

Tyler Perry captured the high-game for the Trailblazers with a perfect, 300-game, as well as the high-series with 785 pins. Tommy Tkacz also had a career-day by bowling his way to the individual section with a total of 1416 pins over the course of 6 games.

Coach Sparks commented on the overall success of the team this weekend by saying, “Tommy bowled exceptional on Saturday to lead the field of individual players, and Tyler came back after a struggle at the start to finish strong; helped by his perfect 300-game.  Even though we didn’t bowl quite as well on Sunday, the team held it together for most of the day, and we still had a realistic opportunity to bring home the title in our last Baker match of the day, trailing eventual winner William Paterson University by only 78 pins going to the final 2 Baker games.  We still weren’t able to make as good of shots as we needed though. We were able to secure a strong 3rd place showing in this major Tier 1 event.  Two more events to finish up this semester, both with very good fields and another Tier 1 for the Match Games and we will see if we can continue to build and learn as we go to stay in the hunt for these future events as well.

The VU Bowling team will look to build on their success this weekend, November 11th & 12th, at the Leatherneck Classic in Moline, IL. Go VU!
