Todd Franklin Selected as Member of 2018 NJCAA Hall of Fame Class

Colorado Springs, CO - The NJCAA Men's Basketball Coaches Association announced its 2018 Hall of Fame inductees on Friday. A pair of current coaches along with a former standout on the court have been enshrined into the 2018 class; including current Head Coach of the Trailblazers, Todd Franklin

Entering his 21st season as a head coach at the collegiate level, there is no doubt why Todd Franklin was a strong candidate for consideration, and induction, into the 2018 NJCAA Men’s Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. The 2017-18 season marks his eighth at the helm for Vincennes; a span that includes five-consecutive trips to the national tournament, only the second program in the history of the NJCAA to reach that feat.

Prior to the start of this season, Franklin had amassed 533 wins, with a .800 winning percentage, including a record of 204-and-36 at Vincennes. The Trailblazers reached the Elite 8 of the 2017 NJCAA tournament after winning the regular and postseason District 16 titles. During his time at Vincennes, over 100 student-athletes have received full scholarship offers to the four-year level.

Again, Franklin's coaching presence has been in full swing during the 2017-18 season as Vincennes has jumped out to a 17-0 start, and a current No. 2 national ranking in the DI poll.

Franklin's basketball coaching tenure includes stops at Southeastern Illinois, Missouri-Rolla, and Austin Peay. A former basketball player at Union College and Brescia College, Franklin holds a master's degree in physical education from Austin Peay and a bachelor's degree in history with a minor in athletic coaching from Western Kentucky.

Coach Franklin said that when he found out about being a member of the NJCAA 2018 Hall of Fame class there were “lots of emotions” and that he was “excited, thrilled and flattered” by the selection. Franklin also wanted to make sure to mention the people who have helped him to reach this point. His father Pat Franklin who was his “first coach”, his wife Stephanie who has “been with him the whole time” as well as his two daughters, Madison and Mary” who he hopes he has made “proud and happy”. His brother Greg, now the head women’s basketball coach at Chipola College in Florida, who was his “first assistant at Southeastern Illinois”. There are also those who helped Todd get his start in coaching, like Dave Loos at Austin Peay, and Dale Martin at Missouri-Rolla. Franklin said he “hopes all of those people feel as much a part of this as they are”.

Any mention of his career coaching record and Franklin immediately gives credit to his players. “They’re the ones who won those games.” Franklin continued to say, “I consider myself lucky to have been surrounded by so many great players throughout the years, and am always happy to see to the type of men they turn out to be. With all the people previously mentioned, I had to say, this is their day, and this is their honor”.

Todd finished by stating that there is no high honor in coaching, and today is the result of “lots of time, work and effort” and he, of course, could not have done it alone.
