At VU, we believe sports play an important role in the overall purpose of an educational institution. We support a well-rounded intercollegiate sports program for both men and women and have a strong presence in the NJCAA where we can claim several national championships. But we are equally proud of our individual All-American and All-American Academic athletes who have used their talent to continue their education at four-year colleges.

Track & Field Set to Host Region XII Championships

Vincennes, IN – The Vincennes University Men’s & Women’s Track & Field teams will be hosting the NJCAA Region XII Meet this Thursday, Friday, & Saturday at the Vincennes University track complex, located at the intersection of Chestnut & Red Skelton Boulevard.

“It’s a big honor to be able to host the NJCAA Region XII Championships again this year. It is a great opportunity for athletes, and the community, to host a big meet on our campus like this. The meet has really developed over the last couple of years, and should provide some really good competition, and some really fun races to watch.” Said Chris Gafner, Head Track & Field Coach.

The meet will consist of Region XII teams: Cuyahoga, Lansing Community College, Maccomb, Muskegon Community College, & Vincennes. Last year, during the 2015-16 season, the Men’s Track & Field team won the Outdoor Region XII team title, and the Women’s team finished runner-up. The results stacked up the same way at the Indoor Region XII Championships this winter. So both teams will head into the meet looking to chase national qualifying marks, and have continued success.

Both teams have had tremendous success this season. Sophomore Varvara Klyuchnikova is the #2 seed in the NJCAA in the high jump with a mark of 5’10”. Sophomore Anais Da Silva is one of the top-3 seeds in the NJCAA in both the 5,000 & 10,000m runs. Also, pole vaulters Aintzane Castarlenas Martinez & Merica Valdez are both tied for the 2nd best mark in the NJCAA in the vent with jumps of 12’1 ½”.

On the Men’s side, freshman Marlowe Mosely is one of the top-10 seeds in the NJCAA in what has proven to be a very, very deep 400 meter field at 47.24 seconds. Mosely is also part of the 4x4 team also consisting of Gus Lathrop, Kevin Johnson, and Michael Trice that currently sits top-15 in the NJCAA, and earned All-American accolades indoors. Sophomore Jordan Downs currently is currently the #1 seed in the NJCAA in the pole vault at 16’4 ½”, and 12th in the long jump.

Start time for the meet on Thursday is 4:30 p.m., Friday is at 2:00 p.m., and Saturday, field events will begin at 11:00 a.m., running events at noon. All times listed are EST. Go Blazers!
