Trailblazers Sign Floyd Central Stand-Out Faith Barba

Floyd Knobs, IN – Last night the Vincennes University Cross Country/Track & Field team inked their first recruit for the 2018 recruiting class by signing Floyd Central Highlander, Faith Barba.

“Faith has a tremendous amount of upside. She is very driven, she is very talented, and she genuinely wants to run fast every time she steps on the track. She has the ability to completely re-write our record-book at Vincennes over her 2-years here.” Said Coach Blake Albrecht when asked about signing Barba.

Barba has qualified for state 7-times during her 3.5 years at Floyd Central, and will look to make it a perfect 8 this track season. She holds personal bests of 2:16 for the 800-meter run, 5:12 for the 1600-meter run, has split under 60 seconds as a leg of Floyd’s 4x4 team, and holds a 5k-cross-country personal best of 19:01, which she ran this year at the St. Xavier Tiger Run.

Barba said on signing with Vincennes, “I’m excited for the opportunity, and I’m really excited for what the future will hold for me at Vincennes!”

Last track season Barba began to experiment with moving from primarily being an 800-meter runner, to also running the 1600. She picked-up a big win in the event at the Eastern Relays hosted by the University of Louisville, where she used her exceptional finishing speed to put nearly 9-seconds on her competitors in the final-lap of the four-lap race.

Barba would continue to finish runner-up in the event, narrowly losing to Christian Academy’s exceptional underclassman McKenna Cavanaugh by 21-tenths of a second. She would rebound later that day to win the 800-meter run, and advanced to regionals in a total of 4 events.

Barba then would finish 2nd in the Evansville Regional in the 800-meter run, advancing to state.

Albrecht continued to say about Barba, “Faith is a fast runner, but she is a great kid also. She is someone who will work hard in the classroom, she will work hard on the track, and she will be someone who prospective recruits for our program will be able to look-up to. She is an all-around, phenomenal young lady.”
