Play for Kay Cancer Awareness

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation, is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause. Kay Yow was a college head coach for 38 years and past president and founding member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Her name is synonymous with North Carolina State. She is a member of the Naismith National Basketball Hall of Fame and achieved more than 700 career victories. Yow was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. She passed away in 2009 after an on-again, off-again battle with the disease.

Veteran Duo of Roth and Maggett Lead the Lady Trailblazers to 12th Straight Victory

Centralia, IL - Sophomores Mykel Roth and Ladellia Maggett combined for 34 points in the Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers’ 71 - 49 victory over Kaskaskia.

Vincennes got up on Kaskaskia early leading 18 – 11 after the first quarter and built from there. Freshman Janiya Davis helped VU build on their early lead scoring half of the Lady Trailblazers points in the second quarter, pushing Vincennes to an 11-point lead at half. Sophomore Mykel Roth took over the game in the third quarter, scoring 8 of her game-high 18 points in the quarter. Roth’s performance in the third quarter was followed by fellow sophomore Ladellia Maggett’s 11-point fourth quarter show, leading Vincennes to their highest scoring quarter of the game and putting the final nail in the 71- 49 victory over the Blue Angels.

Mykel Roth lead the Lady Trailblazers with 18 points and 7 rebounds, which is her highest point total since early December. Ladellia Maggett finished with 16 points, 6 assists and 3 steals. Janiya Davis came off the bench to score 10 points and grab 5 rebounds, and sophomore Claudia Stan put on another rebounding clinic ending her night with 18 rebounds.

The Lady Trailblazers will be on the road again this Saturday, February 3rd, when they take on Lincoln Trail College as part of a men’s and women’s double-header. The Lady Trailblazers will play in the first game of the night which is set to tip-off at 6:30 eastern, with the men’s game to follow.

Scholarship Fund

Trailblazer Scholarship Fund - The VU Foundation awarded a record $1.4 million scholarship dollars of VU Foundation and University funds for the 2015-2016 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  

These included awards to students from 10 states across the country and 4 international awards.  

Currently the VU Foundation manages over 540 scholarship and department funds, with 259 new funds created in just the last 10 years.
