At VU, we believe sports play an important role in the overall purpose of an educational institution. We support a well-rounded intercollegiate sports program for both men and women and have a strong presence in the NJCAA where we can claim several national championships. But we are equally proud of our individual All-American and All-American Academic athletes who have used their talent to continue their education at four-year colleges.

Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers Come from Behind Against Lincoln Trail to Capture 13th Straight Victory

Robinson, IL – The Vincennes Lady Trailblazers continue to roll after their 13th straight victory on the season in a defensive battle vs. Lincoln Trail.

The Lady Trailblazers came into tonight’s game averaging 90.9 points per game, and seemingly for the first time this season the shots were not falling for VU. Vincennes was playing from behind for an overwhelming majority of the game and went into halftime with an 11-point deficit. Vincennes’ leading scorer at the half was freshman Sofia Besedina with 6 points. Lincoln Trail reached the largest lead of the game with a 33 – 17 lead in the third quarter.

The fourth quarter is where things changed for the Lady Trailblazers, nearly doubling their point total in the final 10 minutes. Vincennes got their first lead of the game with a minute to go in the contest after a layup by freshman Oksana Fastova put VU ahead 43 – 42. After a couple of free throws by sophomore Ashley Johnson, and a late layup by freshman Janiya Davis and the buzzer sounded give the Lady Trailblazers the 50 – 45 victory, and their 16th win of the season.

Sophomore Ladellia Maggett was the only Lady Trailblazers’ player with double-figures in points with 12, all in the second half. Maggett also dished out 5 assists. Oksana Fastova finished with 9 points and 6 rebounds. Janiya Davis finished her night with 8 points and 6 rebounds. Freshman Marquitta Easley also added an 8-point scoring night. Sophomore Claudia Stan continues her streak of games with 10 or more rebounds, pulling in 15.

The Lady Trailblazers return home on Monday, February 5th, when they take on Rend Lake College in a game previously scheduled for January 13th. The Lady Trailblazers will tip-off at 7 p.m. eastern.
