Play for Kay Cancer Awareness

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation, is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause. Kay Yow was a college head coach for 38 years and past president and founding member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Her name is synonymous with North Carolina State. She is a member of the Naismith National Basketball Hall of Fame and achieved more than 700 career victories. Yow was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. She passed away in 2009 after an on-again, off-again battle with the disease.

Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers Increase Win Streak to 10 Games After Win Over Southwestern Illinois

Vincennes, IN – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers played host to the Blue Storm of Southwestern Illinois tonight and came away with the 105 – 45 victory in the District P contest.

Vincennes came out on a mission tonight and struck early, ending the first quarter with a 33 – 11 lead, and continued to add on from there. The Lady Trailblazers went into halftime with a 34-point lead. Freshman Janiya Davis was on of the early stars of the game, heading into halftime with a game-high 10 points. The Lady Trailblazers starters were the epidemy of consistency throughout the game, with each of the 5 starters scoring between 5 and 7 points in the first 20 minutes of play. Sophomore Ladellia Maggett and freshman Oksana Fastova got the ball moving early going into the half with 4 assists for Maggett and 3 assists for Fastova. Vincennes’ defensive pressure was the difference in the early part of the game, forcing Southwestern Illinois to commit 13 first half turnovers, 9 resulting in steals.

VU continued to roll out of the locker room, out scoring the Blue Storm 54 – 28 in the second half, while keeping the pressure on Southwestern’s offensive attack, swiping 17 total steals for the game. Freshman Christina De La Cruz came off the bench to help move the Lady Trailblazers offense, dishing out 5 assists. VU had an outstanding rebounding game also, out rebounding the Blue Storm 55 – 30, and pulled in 22 offensive rebounds.

In total, 6 Lady Trailblazers reached double-figures. Janiya Davis was the leading scorer with 16 points off the bench, and the remaining 5 were all starters. Sophomore Mykel Roth finished with 15 points and 5 rebounds, Fastova finished with 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals. Ladellia Maggett finished with 12 points and 6 assists. Freshman Marquitta Easley ended up with 11 points, and fellow freshman Ivanda Hudjakova finished with 10 points and 8 rebounds. Also of note would be the performance of 6 foot 5 sophomore Claudia Stan, who ended her night with 19 rebounds, which is in fact a new career-high.

The next Lady Trailblazers home game will be on Saturday, January 27th, when VU takes on #9 Wabash Valley as part of a men’s and women’s double-header. The VU women’s game is set to tip-off at 5 p.m. eastern.

Scholarship Fund

Trailblazer Scholarship Fund - The VU Foundation awarded a record $1.4 million scholarship dollars of VU Foundation and University funds for the 2015-2016 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  

These included awards to students from 10 states across the country and 4 international awards.  

Currently the VU Foundation manages over 540 scholarship and department funds, with 259 new funds created in just the last 10 years.
