Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers Pick-Up 6th Straight Win Over District P Rival Olney Central

Vincennes, IN-The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers improved to 9-4 on the season after an 89-56 victory over the Lady Knights of Olney Central.

The Lady Trailblazers got off to a hot start, going on a 7-0 to begin the game, leading to a 49-23 halftime advantage. The 2nd quarter is where Vincennes really seemed to find their groove, outscoring the Lady Knights by 20 in the period. Freshman Marquitta Easley was the game’s leading scorer at the break with 16 points. Sophomores Mykel Roth and Ladellia Maggett went into halftime with impressive stat lines; 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists for Roth, and 9 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists for Maggett.

In the second-half, the Vincennes defense put the final touches on this game. Forcing Olney Central to commit 22 turnovers on the night. The Lady Trailblazers also won the rebounding battle at both ends of the floor, pulling in a staggering 14 offensive boards. Scoring wise, the second-half was more back-and-forth than the first, with Vincennes only managing a 7-point margin in the final 2 periods.

Freshman Marquitta Easley was the leading scorer for the Lady Trailblazers ending the game with 19 points. Sophomores Mykel Roth and Ladellia Maggett continued their all-around performances through the second-half with 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists for Roth, and 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists for Maggett. Freshman Janiya Davis rounded out the VU scorers in double-figures with 12 points and 7 rebounds.

Vincennes’ next game will be a road game against John A. Logan in Carterville, IL on Monday, December 18th, as part of a men’s and women’s double-header. The women’s game will start the action at 6 p.m. eastern.

Scholarship Fund

Trailblazer Scholarship Fund - The VU Foundation awarded a record $1.4 million scholarship dollars of VU Foundation and University funds for the 2015-2016 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  

These included awards to students from 10 states across the country and 4 international awards.  

Currently the VU Foundation manages over 540 scholarship and department funds, with 259 new funds created in just the last 10 years.
