At VU, we believe sports play an important role in the overall purpose of an educational institution. We support a well-rounded intercollegiate sports program for both men and women and have a strong presence in the NJCAA where we can claim several national championships. But we are equally proud of our individual All-American and All-American Academic athletes who have used their talent to continue their education at four-year colleges.

Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers Upset #9 Wabash Valley in 102 – 99 Thriller

Vincennes, IN – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers pulled off the upset of District P rival Wabash Valley in a game that came down to the very last second.

Vincennes went into halftime with a 45 – 41 lead over the highly ranked Lady Warriors. VU sophomore Ladellia Maggett was a major reason for the early lead, with a game-high 19 points, while also adding 4 assists, and 3 steals. Vincennes recorded assists on 10 of their 16 first-half field goals, and only allowed Wabash Valley to grab 1 offensive rebound in the first 20 minutes of action. Sophomore Claudia Stan was on double-double watch early, going into the locker room with 6 points and 5 rebounds off the bench.

The Lady Trailblazers found themselves down by 4 after the 3rd quarter and needed to make a change to pull off the upset. Freshman Marquitta Easley stepped up and took over scoring for the VU, scoring all 11 of her points in the second-half. Vincennes got ahead by the largest margin of the game with an 11-point lead with 3:52 to go in the 4th. Ultimately the combination of Easley and Maggett, along with key rebounds from freshman Oksana Fastova and Claudia Stan allowed Vincennes to maintain their lead through the final buzzer, clinching the upset over Wabash Valley.

Ladellia Maggett tied her career-high of 38 points, also adding 9 assists and 4 steals. Fastova ending her night with 16 points, and 9 rebounds, setting new career-highs in each category. Claudia Stan was successful in reaching her third career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Marquitta Easley rounds out VU scores in double figures with 11 points and 5 rebounds.

The Lady Trailblazers will be on the road next when they travel to take on Kaskaskia College on Wednesday, January 31st, as part of a men’s and women’s double-header. Tip-off for the Lady Trailblazers is scheduled for 6:30 eastern.
